Luxemburg-Casco High School Performing Arts is proud to present Seussical The Musical the weekend of February 15th. The show will be held at the L-C High School Auditorium and tickets are $7.00 in advance/$8.00 at the door and are available beginning on Monday, February 11th at 3:00. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.totalgatesolutions.com.
Seussical is based on the works of Dr. Seuss and weaves together his most famous tales and characters from at least fifteen of his books. The show follows the adventures of Horton, an elephant who one day hears voices coming from a speck of dust. He soon discovers that within this tiny speck exists a tiny planet with a tiny race of creatures known as Whos. Although ridiculed by the other animals in the Jungle of Nool for believing in something he cannot see, Horton stubbornly defends his belief that the Whos exist. Traveling everywhere from the Jungle of Nool to McEligott’s Pool, some of the characters fall in love, some have desperate adventures, and some even save the world!
Leading the audience through the musical’s twists and turns is Dr. Seuss’ most well- known character, the Cat in the Hat, played delightfully by Ian Addison. Following this feral feline on his chaotic adventures is the wide-eyed JoJo, a young boy thrown into the action of the play without any forewarning, played by Delancey Holl. Weaving a classic love story between the Cat’s moments of mayhem are Noah Rueckl and Nikki Baeb, the actors responsible for bringing Horton the Elephant and Gertrude McFuzz to life.
The Wickersham Monkeys, an unruly trio, rock the Jungle of Nool with their cruel tricks and monkey business. Taylor Gulbrand, Claudia Engebose, and Logan Rueckl “monkey around” with ease and style in their roles. Yertle the Turtle joins in the fun played by Alisha Hendricks. The Queen of Nool, the Sour Kangaroo, is played by Marissa Jacobs. The sultry Mayzie La Bird, played by Amarra Zehms, commands the spotlight with her brassy, salsa song and dance numbers. She is supported by the flamboyant feathered chorus of Abby Bader, Jennifer Beyer, Courtney Dorner, Mariah Jacobs, Kaitlyn Morris, and Erica Sampo whose harmonies and fantastic dance rhythms add extra spice to a number of scenes.
Cole Cravillion and Emma Wallander play the Mayor and Mrs. Mayor of the tiny town of Whoville. Their daughter Cindy Lou is played by Sara Mertens. The grumpy old Grinch is played by Devonte Stevenson. The jungle animals from Nool include Julianna Cibula, Samantha Giddley, and Lydia Rentmeester. Joining the cast are the Lorax played by Jessica Liebeck; Thing 1 and Thing 2 are played by Kate DeJardin and Autumn Ash; Lexington Nell plays the evil bird Vlad Vladikoff; General Schmitz is played by Trevor Bader; and the Whoville Whos include Olivia Addison, Abby Gallenberger, Samantha Jeanquart, Brad Oysti, Brady Tanck, Gage Weber, Shae Weber, Haley Marks, Joran Neville, Drew Pavlat, and Cassidy Salentine.
This show entails creative whimsical scenery, many colorful and wacky costumes, hand-made props, and extensive character makeovers and dramatic hairstyles. You won’t want to miss this incredibly imaginative and inventive musical. Put green eggs and ham on your menu for February.
